Ethereal Currents
"Ethereal Currents" is a deeply personal exploration of the connection between the natural world and the cosmos. In this piece, I wanted to create a sense of flow—both in the physical textures and in the energy the painting carries. The swirling blues and sandy tones represent the ocean and shore, which for me, have always been places of healing and grounding. There's something about the ebb and flow of the tides that mirrors the internal journey I often find myself on—a cycle of calm, disruption, and eventual peace.
The elements within the piece—the crystallized starfish, shells, and flowers—are all natural, much like the materials I use in most of my work. Nature has always been my safe space, especially after walking away from the strict religion I grew up in. I’ve never felt comfortable in conventional spiritual spaces, but nature? Nature is where I’ve always felt the most connected, the most at peace. It’s the place I turn to when I need to quiet the noise and ground myself. I find solace in the ocean’s rhythm, the feeling of sand beneath my feet, and the soft wind that reminds me that I’m part of something so much bigger.
With "Ethereal Currents," I wanted to evoke that same sense of connection between the earth and the stars. I often feel like the ocean leads us to something far beyond, something we can’t quite see but can feel deeply. The textures created with plaster, sand, and mica mimic the natural landscape, while the flow of paint represents the currents of water and energy that move between our world and the universe. The crystallized starfish and flowers represent the beauty I find in the smallest details of nature, a reminder that even the smallest elements hold vast power.
As someone who struggles with anxiety, depression, and PTSD, my work serves as a way to bring a sense of balance and calm into my life. It’s my way of finding peace in the chaos, and my hope is that viewers can feel a similar sense of tranquility when they encounter this piece. "Ethereal Currents" is meant to carry you through those moments of uncertainty and remind you of the gentle forces—both seen and unseen—that carry us forward, just like the ocean’s currents.
This painting is a reflection of my own journey of healing and trust, a process of surrendering to the flow and finding peace in the unknown.
